| Chapter 13 |
| Air Barriers are now required on all commercial
and some residential construction due to introduction of the new Massachusetts
Energy Code, Chapter
13. Their main function is to control the movement of air and
moisture into and out of the building. This will help reduce the cost
of heating and air conditioning, as well as the risk of mold. The
air barrier system consists of the entire exterior envelope of the
building including the roof, windows, doors and exterior wall systems.
|
| Gleeson Powers specializes
in spray-applied and self-adhering air-vapor barrier membranes. |
 |
| Coordination |
| The air-vapor membranes, applied to the
outer surface of the CMU or Dens Glass Sheathing backup walls, need
to be properly integrated into the roof, window and door frames. Gleeson
Powers stresses the importance of coordinating with the other trades
to assure continuity of the building envelope with proper tie-ins
to the roof vapor barrier in addition to window and door frames. |
